It would serve these people right if their homeowner insurance carriers denied their claims. Their intentional refusal to abide by the legal requirement to maintain a 100′ “safe zone” around their homes is a material factor that increased the risk of fire damage. When people act irresponsibly they should suffer the consequences. If they think protecting the trees is a higher priority than their own homes…………let them pay the price for that decision.

We had over 100 feet of defensive area around our place where everything burned to ash. 100 feet is nothing when you have 60 mile an hour winds. The fire becomes a blow torch.

I wish there could be more empathy toward the fire victims rather than blaming the victims.

I hear nothing about the criminal investigation into who caused the fire. This is where accountability should be focused!

It’s so easy to pass the blame on. I mean did you want the residents to go outside and count the 100 feet for themselves. What it comes down to is that they paid for home insurance and then when they tried to collect they were denied. I would be very upset if I was a resident. And who can say that they could afford to clear out the land. I mean with the economy the way it is who as free money for anything these days. Plus if the city didn’t pass out the paper work those who didn’t receive it should be paid off the fact that they were unaware.
