Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation Gala to Honor Dewey & LeBoeuf’s Jim Woods

April 30, 2009

The Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation will be hosting its 16th Annual Western Division Gala Dinner at 6:30-10:30 p.m., May 16 at the Four Seasons Hotel in San Francisco for professionals in the insurance industry.

The event will honor James Woods, a Partner at Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP, Foundation board member and one of the original founders of the Industry Foundation. David Zuercher, chairman, president and CEO of Wells Fargo Insurance Services is serving as the 2009 Dinner Chairman.

Woods co-founded the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation and is co-chair of Dewey & LeBoeuf’s Global Insurance Industry Sector Group, a long-standing member of its Executive Committee, managing partner of the firm’s San Francisco office and Executive Committee liaison to its Silicon Valley office. He is general counsel to The Surplus Line Association of California and has represented numerous insurers and insurance-related entities for more than 30 years on a wide variety of issues, including: 1) the Dutch Association of Insurers in connection with the creation of the International Holocaust Commission; 2) the California Insurance Industry in creating the California Earthquake Authority; 3) the Insurance Information Institute on a pro-bono basis; and he 4) volunteered and organized Hurricane Katrina insurance claims relief efforts at the Houston Astrodome.

In addition to being a founder and supporter of the Foundation, Woods has served on the board of directors since 1994 and provides many hours each year of pro-bono legal advice and service to the Foundation. He serves on the Board of Governors or National Board of Directors. He and his firm actively participate annually in the Foundation’s Volunteer Week program, which provides much-needed hands-on support to community nonprofits.

The Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation was established in 1994 and is directed and funded by the insurance industry and its strategic partners. In 2007 they launched the New York Division, which serves New York and the Tri-state area, and in 2008 re-launched the California Division as the Western Division, encompassing the Western United States. Plans for a Midwestern and Southern Division are currently being explored.
