Denver-based Pinnacol Assurance is being honored by the Points of Light Institute with the 2009 Corporate Engagement Award of Excellence. The award recognizes a business’s overall employee/retiree volunteer effort.
Pinnacol is being honored alongside Capital One, Deloitte LLP, Eli Lilly and Salesforce.
“Being honored alongside these national and international companies is a proud and humbling moment for our organization,” said Ken Ross, president and CEO of Pinnacol Assurance, noting his organization serves a single state. “We encourage and support our employees’ involvement in activities that enhance the quality of life in the Colorado communities we serve. This award acknowledges that companies don’t have to have a large workforce to have a large impact.”
In 2008, 80 percent of Pinnacol employees volunteered through Pinnacol in Action, the company’s community involvement program. They spent 5,121 hours in volunteer activities such as youth mentoring and education, human services programs, community beautification and promoting health awareness.
Employees receive 12 hours of paid time off each year to participate in the program. In April, Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado, recognized the company with the annual Top Company Award.
Pinnacol Assurance is Colorado’s leading provider of workers’ compensation insurance.
