California newspaper the San Francisco Chronicle is predicting that San Francisco Supervisor Michela Alioto-Pier will announce her candidacy for state Insurance Commissioner today.
Alioto-Pier is the granddaughter of former San Francisco Mayor Joseph Alioto. She also previously was a member of the San Francisco Port Commission and Board of Supervisors as appointed by Mayor Gavin Newsom after he was elected mayor in 2003.
Current Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner will be running for governor in 2010.
