My husband and I received notice that our PPO Share 5000 will go from $945 per month to $1,291 — an increase of $346 each per month!!!THAT IS A 37% INCREASE and in these economic times what are they thinking????? Please don’t let them do this to people. Even if we go to the PPO Share 7500 it will cost us $1,034 per month each — about a 9% increase.

It is rediculous. Anyone who is healthy should leave Anthem now! For those who are sick or not healthy enough to be accepted by another carrier…Best of luck being able to pay these insane rate hikes. Well done Anthem!!!

Could they have timed this at any worse time. What they heck are they thinking!! They apparently want National controls placed on them.

Is Anthem the only carrier writing health insurance in the state? Surely a state the size of California, has other carriers anxious to write new policies right? This is a large proposed increase but one beauty of the free market is being able to go somewhere else when you feel you’re being screwed!

Could it be that Steve is using this high profile action by Blue Cross as yet another stepping stone for his race for Governor?

My wife and I have Anthem Blue Cross Healh Insurance. Each of us have an increase of $200.00 per policy. This is $4800 more per year. Cost prohibitive!

Moreover, they pay for very little with our policies as we have a $7500 deductible on healtcare and $750 deductible on prescription drugs.

Like other policy holders I am in shock.

I’ve been saying all along during the health care debates on other posts….there are some things that do not have to be for profit. Health care would be one of them.

Sure, we could try opening up competition across state lines but what guarantee would consumers have that pricing wouldn’t go up or certain exclusions would apply?

    Esquire,

If you are not in good health, you do not have the option of switching to another individual policy, no matter which company. You will be declined in a heartbeat if you are currently ill. The only real option for those folks is to suck it up, drop coverage or find a way into a group policy.

I’m tellin ya – a single payer system like Medicare is what we need for this country but our politicians are too inept to run it efficiently.

    To bad for us.

Remember, the main reason healthcare is so expensive in California is state mandates. This past year one bill passed by the legislature included language that would have required carriers to offer the exact same financial limits on mental health as physical health. In other words, the risks just essentailly doubled on ALL healthcare plans. Remember, in California, it is not the insurance companies that are the bad guys…it’s the legislature. Now, who has controlled the legislature for decades in California?

Health care in America is nowhere near being a free market system. We are getting the worst of all worlds in that it is partially socialized, partially free market.
