Walnut Creek, Calif.-based CSE Insurance Group has announced the winners of its 2010 Youth Scholarship Contest. With a total value of $12,000, prizes were won by those high school students who submitted the best essays on the subject of how to lower the auto accident rate among teen drivers. Excerpts from some of the winning entries are available at http://cseinsurancegroup.blogspot.com/2010/05/as-mentioned-tuesday-today-well-be.html.
Each of the three regions (Northern California, Southern California and Arizona/Nevada) had five winners selected. The first place winner will receive a $1,500 scholarship toward continuing their education, with the second place winner receiving $1,000 and third through fifth receiving $500.
The students were required to meet certain criteria to enter. They had to have already been accepted to an institution of higher education with attendance starting no later than the fall of 2010, they had to have a minimum GPA of 3.0, and they had to have at least one parent or guardian either presently employed by, or retired from, the public sector.
“We received over 250 entries this year, which is easily the most we have seen since we started the contest several years ago,” commented CSE Insurance Group President and CEO Pierre Bize. “Even more impressive is the overall quality of the entries. It was extremely difficult to narrow the field down to our chosen recipients.”
