Education to meet the California’s Department of Insurance Homeowners’ Valuation Training requirement can be obtained online.
Through the Insurance Community University Web site, InsuranceCommunityUniversity.com, has created an online resource to help educate and update professionals, according to Laurie Zangwill Infantino of the Community University. The training is provided in two sessions totaling three continuing education credits.
The course ensures that agents and brokers meet the requirements of Section 1749.85 of the California Insurance Code – A Fire and Casualty Broker-Agent or Personal Lines Broker-Agent to have significant knowledge in the proper methods of estimating the replacement value of structures. Former Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner proposed the new requirement following several California wildfires, in which he discovered many homeowners were under-insured. The law requires fire and casualty broker-agents or personal lines broker-agents that transact, negotiate or sell homeowners’ insurance to complete a minimum of three hours of homeowners insurance valuation training.
The Insurance Community University is the Education & Training arm of the Insurance Community Center.
