Portland is suing a former insurance carrier for $1.5 million in legal defense costs for claims involving nine employees.
The city says the ICSP company refused to pay costs that exceeded the city’s $1 million limit. Most of the disputed money involves the nearly $2 million the city spent defending a wrongful death lawsuit for a man who died in police custody in 2006, James Chasse.
The insurance company says the claims are not reimbursable.
The Oregonian reported the breach of contract lawsuit was filed Friday in Multnomah County Circuit Court.
