“We” as a society do not. However, the jail does. They knew he was at risk for suicide, did not give him treatment for his heroin withdrawal, put him in a cell with the means to do himself harm to himself, and failed to monitor him. They should be held responsible.
These settlements are outrageous. I just can not see how we as a society have to take responsibility for an adult committing suicide.
