California Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones named Eric Weirich deputy commissioner of the enforcement branch of the California Department of Insurance.
Weirich began with CDI as a detective with the fraud division in 1998. He has held a range of posts, including detective, sergeant, and captain of the Benicia Regional offices, Northern California bureau chief, and most recently fraud division chief.
Weirich has more than 25 years of civilian law enforcement experience, including time as a police officer with the Vacaville Police Department and as an investigator with the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.
His law enforcement career began with his assignment to the security police squadron in the U.S. Air Force.
CDI’s enforcement branch has made a reported 1,961 arrests between January 2011 and June 2013, with 1,839 arrests by the fraud division and 122 arrests by the investigation division.
