I have a hard time believing this person, of course, these articles never give all the facts so I might be missing something. I have raised Llama’s and they see people as a predator and tend to avoid any physical contact with us. Llama’s are a peaceful and gentle animal for the most part. There is a however, as usual! If an infant llama is raised as you would raise a puppy or kitten and over handle them, they will lose that natural instinct to view people as predators and instead view people as just another llama. These animals can be very dangerous and usually have to be put down. This is very rare and usually only happens when a llama is raised away from other llama’s or alpacas. I owned one of them once and that was the case, it was reared by a cattle and horse ranch with no other llama’s there. We gave it back to them, if they hadn’t taken him back he would have gotten a 30/30 bullet between the eyes!
I must be missing something…. he slid off the horse and broke a leg — it is not that the Llama hit him? So the Llama got out of his enclosure and that alone makes him dangerous because the horse was spooked?
It doesn’t even say the horse was spooked. It says he slid off the horse and landed wrong and broke his leg in anticipation of a confrontation with the llama.
All I can think of is that the llama was playing the gang fight song from West Side Story!
