I have to disagree with the family on this. As a former rifle instructor, if I was uncomfortable with ANY person firing ANY weapon, it didn’t happen. Range safety is first and foremost with any range and instructor. This instructor must have felt comfortable letting this young girl shoot a weapon on fully automatic. Having never shot an Uzi myself, I don’t know about the recoil it generates. Imagine being the parents of this girl and what they will have to go through to help her.

I hear you on feeling for that little girl, tragic for everyone involved. But, as a parent of 3 daughters, I will say I would never allow my 9 year old to fire a fully automatic weapon. If she isn’t old enough to watch Rambo, I don’t think she needs to be acting like him. She can still have fun at the range with something more suitable. This accident could have been avoided. I am speculating the range will be placing an age requirement on fully automatic weapons moving forward, should their doors remain opened.

A similar situation occurred at a gun show in Massachusetts a number of years ago. A young boy was firing an uzi and couldn’t control it. Sadly, the boy shot himself in the head due to the recoil. Father was standing right there and saw the whole thing…can’t imagine how he felt.
