I TOTALLY DON’T BUY THE STATEMENT THAT THE AVERAGE PERSON TOUCHES, TAPS OR SWIPES THEIR SMARTPHONES ROUGHLY 2,617 TIMES A DAY AND THAT PEOPLE SPEND AN AVERAGE OF 87 HOURS (THAT’S A LITTLE MORE THAN 3.5 FULL DAYS) PER MONTH BROWSING ON THEIR SMARTPHONES. IF THE DEFINITION OF “AVERAGE PERSON” AND “PEOPLE” IN THESE EXAMPLES IS A 15 YEAR OLD FEMALE, THESE NUMBERS MIGHT WORK. OTHERWISE, “COME ON FOLKS!!”

Renoscs: Sir or madam, wake up. Smartphones are not just for social media. I use mine to book travel, process my expense report, take notes, send and receive email, capture business card data to transfer it to a data file…and those are just the business applications. I use it to purchase train and ferry tickets, paperless boarding passes, Uber rides, NYTimes crossword puzzles, weather forecasts, and yes…seeing my cute nephew’s and my sailing friends’ pictures. Smartphones are tools, not adolescent distractions. Ignore this at your own risk.
