    This literally doesn’t matter because the woman walked directly in front of the vehicle without looking. It’s sad that she died, but it was entirely her fault. No automatic braking system could have saved her.

      All Ubers fault. That radar would have picked up the woman in plenty of time to slow down and stop.

    The “radar” was turned off because there are so many systems running at the same time so no automatic braking. BUT…… Uber should have 2 drivers – one that monitors the system and one that is dedicated to watching the road. Not only is the self driving feature working, but there is mapping updates going on (road humps, stop signs, road that narrows from 2 lanes down to one lane, etc etc etc). The article states that the driver was looking down to check the the system. Same as when someone looks at their phone when a text comes in. Other companies that are testing their system have two people in the car so the person behind the wheel is watching the road.
