Island Insurance Co. has promoted Scott Kuioka to senior vice president and chief operating officer.
Kuioka will continue to serve as chief investment officer and chief risk officer, and oversee the commercial lines-large accounts division, and the personal lines, reinsurance, marketing and facilities departments.
He joined Island Insurance in 2012 and previously held the position of vice president of investments for island insurance and chief investment officer for Tradewind Capital Group. His experience also includes senior vice president of investment management services at Bank of Hawaii and portfolio manager at Mellon Financial in San Francisco, Calif.

The Liberty Company Insurance Brokers has named Lenny Newman a vice president in the San Francisco Bay Area office.
Newman has more than seven years of experience, with stops at Heffernan, Arthur J. Gallagher, and most recently as a producer at McDermottCosta.
Newman specializes in trucking and lawyer’s professional liability.
