When school begins at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, students will have a chance to undertake a bachelor’s degree program in insurance and risk management.
The school got the new program approved this month. The first cohort of 35 students will have the cost of the program covered by a $735,000 gift from the Nevada Surplus Lines Foundation, according to UNLV.
The degree was approved by Nevada’s Board of Regents in June. UNLV bachelor’s degree program has been designed to address evolving industry needs. It also aligns with the UNLV’s Kerestesi Center for Insurance & Risk Management program, which launched in 2023.
The degree program will be housed in the Lee Business School’s Department of Finance.
Students will be instructed in underwriting and claims management, insurance operations and corporate risk mitigation. The degree program will also offer hands-on learning, including internships, case competitions, guest speakers and real-world industry projects.
