Physicians Insurance A Mutual Company appointed David Carlson as president and CEO.
The PI appointment is effective November 1. Dr. Carlson succeeds William Cotter, who is retiring from the organization after a 35-year career.
Carlson is a physician executive with 25 years of experience in C-suite positions throughout his career. He previously served as chief physician officer at MultiCare Health System in Washington, at Hospital Sisters Health System in Illinois and at Conemaugh Health System in Pennsylvania. He currently serves as chief medical officer and vice president of medical operations–King County at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health in Washington. Carlson has served on the Physicians Insurance board since 2018, having served as board chair from 2019-2023.
PI is headquartered in Seattle, Washington.
