MILL CREEK, WA, September 6, 2022 — Pacific International Underwriters® (PIU) is partnering with American Modern® to offer a standalone earthquake insurance policy in Washington & Oregon.
“One of the advantages of this program is that our agents can place the home’s general policy with any carrier, and then add this policy as a supplemental…” said Brian Fassburg, PIU’s VP of Marketing. “…that opens the market to the widest possible extent.”
It is common for a dwelling or homeowners policy to exclude earthquake coverage, leaving the home’s owner on their own if there is a loss. This program provides a $2 million dollar Coverage A limit and a replacement cost settlement. Owner, rental, seasonal, or vacant properties of any age, from single family up to four-family, are accepted. Brick exteriors are allowed.
Because major earthquakes are infrequent, many insureds are not aware of their potential risk, especially if they are newer residents. But examining an earthquake risk map shows that the western parts of Oregon or Washington have the same level of risk as southern California or Alaska. The Seattle and Medford areas have had quakes in the 7.2 magnitude range. That can result in significant damage to a home.
Pacific International Underwriters, Inc. is a General Agency & Surplus Lines Broker located in Mill Creek, Washington. For more information on the earthquake program, or to get appointed with PIU, please contact Cory Gerhard – cory@piuinc.com for Oregon agents and Mike McBride – mike@piuinc.com for Washington agents. PIU also has full carrier authority in Idaho & Alaska, with limited authority in CA, AZ, & NV.
