    ***Caution****If you do business in New York State do not give away prizes to existing clients for referrals. I was fined by the Insurance Department for this very thing and we had disclaimers on everything. The department views this as rebating. End of story!

      Does anyone know if this is also the case for California? An associate made a similar contest on another social networking site, the site pulled the contest after a complaint from another broker but it’s not clear if it’s rebating or not.

    Up to $25 per referral is allowed in Texas before it becomes a commission/rebating.
