CNA’s CEO Stephen Lilienthal Honored by City of Hope, Nov. 20

October 20, 2008

CNA Financial Corp. Chairman and CEO Stephen W. Lilienthal will be presented with City of Hope’s Spirit of Life Award at a gala dinner on Nov. 20 in Chicago. The dinner honors Lilienthal for his philanthropic work and professional achievements throughout his career.

Lilienthal has served as chairman and CEO of CNA since 2002. Before joining the company in 2001 as president and CEO, Property & Casualty Operations, he was executive vice president and head of the St. Paul Cos.

Lilienthal has been spearheading a year-long fundraising campaign for Duarte, Calif.-based City of Hope, a biomedical research and treatment institution for cancer and other life-threatening diseases. The 2008 Spirit of Life fundraising campaign marks the 30th time the insurance industry has come together in support of City of Hope. To date, more than $20 million has been raised as a result of these efforts.

“Our industry has an outstanding tradition of support for City of Hope and its efforts to move the latest scientific discoveries quickly into treatments that will benefit patients around the world,” said Lilienthal. “I am honored to lead this year’s campaign, which is a testament to the philanthropic spirit of our industry.”

The Spirit of Life gala will be held at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers. For information on the campaign or the gala dinner, visit www.cityofhope.org/insurance, or contact Paulette Pasciuti by e-mail at ppasciuti@coh.org or at 213-241-7156.
