A Bristol, Connecticut insurance broker says he’s filling in as the Republican candidate in the 76th Assembly District race to honor the original candidate who apparently took his own life last week.
David L. Norton says he’s not in the race to win it. Rather, he wants to honor the memory of the late Derek Jerome Sr., who believed voters should have a choice and that no candidate should run unopposed.
Norton, an insurance broker, says incumbent Democrat Rep. Frank Nicastro is doing a great job.
Thirty-eight-year-old Jerome left a note indicating he was upset about financial problems and other personal issues. He was found dead in his garage, where his antique Cadillac convertible had been left running.
