This is a model law that was written by the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America (IIABA or Big “I”) and is part of their countrywide initiative that dates to 2004 to remedy certificate of insurance problems for independent insurance agents and their customers.

About time! Now if agents would start seeing their role as advisors to insured’s to prevent them from signing contracts with onerous insurance requirements, what a wonderful world it would be. Fart to often agents see their role as coercing companies into endorsing policies to make the insured compliant with the contract they signed. Alas, some companies will fold, spindle and mutilate a coverage form just satisfy the agent because they fear losing the business. Then the loss comes in and the finger pointing begins.
