Typhoon Aere is reported to be on a collision course towards Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, after pelting the northern portion of the island with high winds and rain.
According to forecasters’ estimates the storm is packing winds up to 80 mph (130km/h) and heavy rain.
Offices, schools and businesses in Taipei have been closed in expectation of Aere’s arrival. The cities of Keelung and Hsinchu are also under threat.
