Ribeiro Named New Lloyd’s Director – International Markets

June 14, 2007

Lloyd’s has appointed Jose Ribeiro, currently Willis’ Managing Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, as its new Director of International Markets and Business Development. He assumes responsibility “for promoting the market across the globe, seeking new business opportunities and monitoring the development of emerging markets,” said the announcement.

Ribeiro will take over the management of Lloyd’s international operations in Europe, Asia, Australasia, Africa and South America. He will be working closely alongside Sue Langley, the newly appointed Director, Market Operations and North America (See IJ web site May 31).

Ribeiro’s appointment completes Lloyd’s senior management team for its international coverage. He and Langley succeed Julian James, Lloyd’s longtiime International Director, who left earlier this year to join insurance broker Lockton’s UK operation.

Lloyd’s CEO Richard Ward commented how pleased he was that Ribeiro had joined Lloyd’s, calling his appointment “an important step forward.”

Ribeiro indicated that he felt “Lloyd’s network of global licenses is one of its key strengths. Its brand is so strong it is known almost everywhere. Taking on this role is therefore an exciting opportunity and my time with Willis, working with great professionals and developing unique solutions for clients, has more than prepared me for this challenge.”

Willis’ COO Grahame Millwater noted that Ribeiro had “done an excellent job at Willis,” making a “significant contribution to our Latin American business. He will be an asset to Lloyd’s and we wish him well in his new role.” He also indicated that Ribeiro would be working with Willis “over the coming months to ensure a smooth transition.”
