Liberty Syndicates Name Sprent to Head Global Financial Risks

December 12, 2011

Liberty Syndicates Management, a member of Liberty Mutual Group, announced that Peter Sprent, an experienced political risk and trade credit underwriter, will be joining Liberty Syndicates at Lloyd’s to lead its Global Financial Risks team.

Chief Underwriting Officer, Matthew Moore described Sprent as a “highly respected market figure with a first class record in his market. The prospect of him developing and expanding our account is genuinely exciting. We believe Liberty Syndicates will be an excellent platform for his talents.”

Sprent will take over from Moore as head of Global Financial Risks. Liberty noted that Moore’s “responsibilities as Chief Underwriting Officer for the £910 million [$1.42 billion] Syndicate require a separate, dedicated leader of this complex class. Peter’s team will continue to include Thomas White and Elizabeth Dexter.”

Liberty Syndicates’ CEO Nick Metcalf added that Sprent’s appointment “confirms our place as a must see market and reinforces our position as a front ranking underwriting proposition. We have had a long and successful history in this class and we confidently look forward to him taking the business to the next level.”

Liberty Syndicates is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Liberty Mutual Group and is a leading Managing Agent operating in the Lloyd’s market. It was established in 1994 and, backed by Liberty Corporate Capital Ltd, was one of the first corporate vehicles at Lloyd’s, managing Syndicate 190 for the 1995 account and Syndicate 282 for the 1996 account. The two Syndicates were merged to create Syndicate 4472, which commenced underwriting in January 2005. Since 2001, the combined capacity of the Syndicate has grown from £384 million [$600 million] to £910 million in 2011.
