Bellevue, Wash.-based wholesaler and program administrator National Specialty Underwriters Inc. has opened a new branch in Chicago.
NSU specializes in insurance for the hospitality and health-care industries, as well as arranging layered placements for a variety of catastrophic property/casualty excess risks. NSU also has branch offices in Boca Raton, Fla., and Poughkeepsie, N.Y..
NSU President Chris Randall said the Chicago office would focus on medical liability insurance for nonstandard physicians and allied health-care facilities. The founding member of the Chicago office is Jim Stewart, a health-care specialist. He has been in the insurance business since 1979, most recently with a Chicago-based wholesale insurance operation.
His career includes underwriting and broking in the professional liability niche. Stewart moved from New York to Chicago in 1986 and has been in the medical malpractice field since then.
