Susan Fuldauer, a public relations director for Indiana-based American Income Life, has thrown her hat into the ring in a challenge for the seat of Republican Indiana House Speaker Brian Bosma.
The Marion County Democratic Slating Committee chose Susan Fuldauer to run against Bosma, who was first elected to the House in 1986, according to an Associated Press account.
Fuldauer, 49, said that Indiana is teetering on the edge of a new era in government and that constituents are tired and frustrated with “old-style politicians running state government.”
Fuldauer and Bosma would compete for the seat in District 88, which takes in parts of northeastern Marion and southeastern Hamilton counties in central Indiana.
Fuldauer earned a degree in education from Indiana University. Her experience includes her role as a children’s program coordinator for Iowa’s Migrant Action Council as well as teaching fifth grade in Des Moines, Iowa. She returned to Indiana and in 1985 joined American Income Life.
She serves on the boards of several labor organizations and is on the National Executive Board of the Coalition of Labor Union Women. Fuldauer also is chairwoman of the Marion County Board of Zoning Appeals. She is married with two children.
