Mich. Burns & Wilcox Adds New Director of Branch Development

Farmington Hills, Mich.-based national specialty insurance wholesaler, underwriter and managing general agent Burns & Wilcox, has hired Paul Anderson, CPCU, ARM, AIM, to serve as the company’s director of branch development. The announcement was made by Burns & Wilcox Chairman, President and CEO Alan Jay Kaufman.

According to the company statement, Anderson brings more than 20 years of insurance experience to the position. In his new position Anderson will direct the development and growth of Burns & Wilcox’s network of 38 offices in 26 states, through which it serves more than 30,000 agents nationwide. Anderson is also charged with leading and managing the company’s production in coverage areas such as environmental, professional liability, management liability and umbrella coverages.

Environmental areas ares are one of the fastest-growing areas of insurance for Burns & Wilcox. Anderson will help develop this product area in the areas of environmental contractors, environmental consultants/engineers, and non-environmental contractors.

The company statement also indicated that the area of professional liability continues to evolve, as companies are increasingly recognizing the need to more closely monitor their liability and manage risk. Anderson has targeted this segment as a key growth product for the company.

Prior to joining Burns & Wilcox, he served as director of commercial risk brokerage for Aon Risk Services. He has previously held positions as assistant vice president/marketing with Willis Corroon Corporation in Southfield, Mich., and Amerisure Companies in Farmington Hills. His experience includes development, marketing, management, business retention and production of new business.

Anderson earned his designation as an associate in Risk Management (ARM) in 1997, received certification as an Associate in Insurance Management (AIM) in 1992, and became a Certified Property/Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) in 1989.
