An insurance group says car thieves in Missouri targeted the Ford Taurus more than any other car in 2010.
Citing numbers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Missouri Insurance Information Service says more than 15,000 vehicles were stolen last year. Almost half of those thefts occurred in St. Louis or Kansas City.
The Taurus topped a list of most-stolen cars, followed by the Dodge Intrepid and the Pontiac Grand Prix.
The insurance group says drivers should lock their doors, roll up windows and park in well-lit areas.
The National Insurance Crime Bureau has set up a toll free hot line to handle reports of auto theft and fraud. The hot line offers rewards of up $1,000 for tips that lead to convictions of car thieves. The number is 1-800-TEL-NICB.
