As the political season moves into high gear, the Independent Insurance Agents of Oklahoma (IIAO) has released the results of a non-partisan survey of candidates for state legislative offices.
The association acknowledged that many candidates did not respond to its questionnaire, noting that some do not respond to any surveys as a matter of principle. However, it expressed the belief that it is important for association members to know who responded, who did not, and what their responses to the questionnaire were.
The 2008 IIAO Candidate Questionnaire & Survey Responses may be downloaded from the IIAO Web site.
Issues covered by the IIAO questionnaire include:
–Whether or not fleeing felons, intoxicated drivers and uninsured drivers involved in an accident should be able to collect non economic damages caused by their involvement in an automobile accident
–Additional reforms to Oklahoma’s tort system
–Health care mandates
–Income tax deduction for health care insurance and long term care insurance premiums
–Changes to the process to select or reject uninsured motorist coverage
–Requiring plaintiffs who file frivolous lawsuits to pay legal costs incurred by defendants
–Taxation and regulation of CompSource Oklahoma
–Changes to Oklahoma’s workers’ compensation system
–Reduction of capital gains tax to maximum of 2 percent
–Elimination of the state estate tax
