It has taken several years but the computer as done tremendous damage to the postal service. The article states that 52% of insurance shoppers start on-line. Anybody want to comment on what they think this may do to agents.

Not good for agents. Most people don’t realize that independent agents ALREADY do this. I’m pretty sure this site won’t be able to provide sound, reasoned, and experienced advice. However, it looks like this is the future and we agents need to adapt.

It will have a bigger impact in the larger cities than the smaller more rural market. Some of these people that have their nose buried in their iphone 24/7 will probably use it, but they will get no advice and will not have a clue what they are buying. All they are doing is price shopping. We are also bombarded 24/7 with TV advertising that all of them can save us $500 on our Auto Insurance. We are always going to have people leave for an apparent savings, but if agents are taking care of their customers, the impact will be minimal. My customers still want advice on how best to protect themselves and a geek on the other end will not be able to do it.
