Texas Approves 12 Companies to Self-Insure for Workers’ Comp

The Texas Department of Insurance’s Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC) renewed approval for 12 employers to self-insure workers’ compensation claims. Together, the companies employ about 45,000 people in Texas.

DWC renewed:

  • ABF Freight System, Inc.
  • Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas
  • Chevron Corporation
  • General Motors Company
  • Johns Manville
  • Kiewit Corporation
  • Leonard Family Corporation
  • MeadWestvaco Corporation
  • Southeastern Freight Lines, Inc.
  • Starbucks Corporation
  • Superior Energy Services, Inc.
  • Trinity Mother Frances Health System

To get approval to self-insure, a company must meet state requirements and have a minimum workers’ compensation insurance unmodified manual premium of $500,000.
