CHOICE Medical Management Services Inc. of Tampa, Fla., unveiled its new specialty workers’ compensation network for heart and hypertension at the 2002 Florida PRIMA State Conference. CHOICE indicated its program is Florida’s first heart and hypertension workers’ compensation specialty network. It will be available Nov. 1.
On July 1, the Florida Legislature extended heart/lung workers’ compensation coverage under Section 440.091 to firefighters, paramedics, EMTs, state and local law enforcement officers, correctional officers and correctional probation officers. The mandate has created new budgeting challenges for municipalities and other entities that employ these positions.
CHOICE responded to this unique market need by developing a Heart and Hypertension Program that functions within the MCA and can be accessed on two levels. Clients can initiate a preemptive program that sends high-risk potential employees for evaluation, or they can use a responsive program that provides established treatment protocols when indicated. CHOICE works directly with the clients to develop customized programs to meet their specific needs and will accept physician nominations from clients, based on local market experience, to further customize their provider network solution.
