The Division of Insurance Fraud of Florida’s Department of Insurance announced that a former Miami bail bondsman turned himself in to authorities on charges of grand theft, organized fraud and failure to return bail bond collateral.
State investigators allege Alan Staple, while doing contract work for Alpha Bail Bonds, collected more than $30,000 in bond premiums from nearly 70 clients, which he failed to turn over to either the agency or the insurance company.
Staple also allegedly failed to return or delayed the return of nearly $10,000 in collateral to clients after the funds were released by the courts.
Staple was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Corrections center, where he will remain pending posting of bond. If convicted of all charges, he could face 40 years in prison.
