Mississippi’s Jackson State University will install metal detectors in two dormitories and ban visitors to both residential halls as part of new security measures.
JSU spokesman Anthony Dean said April 24 that the school enacted the changes to enhance safety, just days after a former student was shot near the Jackson campus.
Lamar Smith, 24, from Lithonia, Ga., was shot April 21. Smith was treated at St. Dominic/Jackson Memorial Hospital and released. No arrests have been made.
Dean said metal detectors are being installed in Dixon Hall and Alexander Hall. He said they are the largest dormitories on campus.
