Florida Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty announced staff changes on the communications staff for the Office of Insurance Regulation.
Jack McDermott has been appointed director of communications. McDermott has been the acting communications director since July 2009. He will be responsible for overall media relations, public information, speechwriting and content of all OIR reports and publications. He has worked at the OIR for 13 years, including being a manager in the life and health market conduct section and as a senior policy analyst.
Brittany Benner has been appointed deputy director of communications. She will be responsible for daily interaction with the media, drafting press releases, as well as coordinating media events, including arranging press access, technology support, event planning and event production.
Benner has been a capital correspondent for Gannett News Services and has covered statewide political issues for television, newspapers and online affiliates in Florida since 2006.
