I’m guessing there are some conservatives out here who think this is a great idea. And, I’m guessing they are the same ones who said the PPACA is unconstitutional because the government cannot mandate its citizens purchase something.

It might be a workable situation if they also mandated a firearm safety and proper gun handling class to be mandatory. The problem that is so often overlooked is that the bad guys can always get guns regardless of the laws and would rather go up against someone that is unarmed. Would you rather face an armed assailant with a gun or with a white hankie?

I thought bearing arms was a constitutional right, as opposed to a requirement

No offense, but (apart from the ocassional hitch-hiking serial killer) what kind of crime would you have in the podunk part of GA, population 1,300 that would require more than 1 or 2 police officers? Let alone requiring this kind of mandate?

Does anybody know the normal per-capita size of a police force?

This sounds like a prime example of when you SHOULD pass a meaningless RESOLUTION advocating this or that…then move on.
