Wow — there has to be more to this story. The teacher gets a pass on serious jail time. Did he lose his certification to teach? Does he have to register as a sex offender? Hope so….
Dear IJ,
The reporting on this story is horrible. It’s not even a half baked story. It’s a few of the raw ingredients, but not enough to make anything edible. Do more research and try to get the whole story. Do it, or don’t do it, but please don’t be half arsed.
Being curious about this one — I did some checking. The teacher gets a deferred trial for 3 years, can have no contact with children and must complete a sex offender treatment program (which is 2 or 3 years long) within the 3 years deferred period. If he has no violations during that time, the 3 felony rape charges against him are dropped (which I believe would mean he wouldn’t have to register as a sex offender). The “deal” was made since the teenager committed suicide and the rapist (I mean the accused) would not be able to confront his accuser. He had to admit as part of the deal that he performed a sex act on the girl which will be used at his trial if he messes up. He already had turned in his teaching certificate. The girl had kept this quiet and finally told a youth leader at her church who told her mother, who called police. This is beyond sad. (information from Billings Gazette – several articles)
I don’t understand. This young girl was attacked and violated and the teacher got a 3 year deferred sentence? He should be fried for his actions.

The teacher should have to become the student and let a cellmate named Bubba learn him what a raping sex act feels like. Sad story indeed.
