Isn’t it strange that CEA has built up reserves to pay large losses should a bad event occur and they are being praised, but in another story — State Farm is being slammed for doing something similar.
Then why can’t they afford to offer deductibles that make sense? Where I am, the policy will cost close to what you are already paying for a homeowners or dwelling policy. So now your insurance cost just doubled. But wait, I have to come up with 10 or 15 percent of my insured value before my policy is any good? What working class family has that in the bank at all times?
They have instituted lower deductible options and have dropped their premium 10% this year. A basic CEA policy is designed for major damage and total loss of the home. Finding a way to pay 25,000 vs 250,000 in the event your home is destroyed in an earthquake is a pretty decent trade-off.
If you have $1,000,000 in dwelling protection would you rather come up with 1,000,000 or 150k?
Premium is about 3k or so annual. I think it’s a good buy but your welcome to take a 850k risk.
