Renewal Processing Time. Due to many reasons, including agencies cutting staff too much, I find many commercial CSRs are far behind in checking their policy renewals. Being behind creates significant E&O exposures such as missing errors and making mistakes trying to rush through the process or even delivering policies late. If a policy is delivered late, any “duty to read” responsibility on the insured’s part is heavily diluted.
If your CSR’s are reviewing policies late, review your procedures to determine if any procedures can be streamlined. While unlikely, this is the place to begin. Next, check whether the producers can improve their own renewal procedure that will enable the CSRs to check renewals more efficiently. If these two options prove insufficient, consider hiring another CSR.
