In conclusion to one of the largest workers’ comp fraud cases in San Diego county history, Doug and Ricki Stricker of Escondido, Calif., and owners of the Stricker Organization, a well-known roofing company, have been sentenced to prison and jail terms respectively.
Doug was sentenced to three years in prison and his wife, Ricki, received a six-month jail sentence. In addition, they were order to pay $475,485 in restitution to State Compensation Insurance Fund (State Fund), and $80,303 to the State Employment Development Department.
State Fund aided the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office Insurance Fraud Unit investigation of the Stricker Organization. An audit by State Fund revealed that the Strickers made numerous misrepresentations regarding worker classification and payroll to fraudulently lower the company’s workers’ comp costs and thereby gain an illegal competitive advantage.
The Stricker Organization did “significant work” in San Diego County, including a major project at the Camp Pendleton U.S. Marine Corps base.
According to Deputy District Attorney Steve Robinson who prosecuted the case, the total amount of fraud by the Stricker Organization was $555,788.
