So. California Producer School Scholarship Applications Being Accepted

October 20, 2003

Insurance Journal magazine is now accepting applications for the 2004 Matt Wells Scholarship for Producer Development.

In partnership with the National Alliance School for Producer Development, Insurance Journal is awarding one scholarship for a full tuition sponsorship to the School for Producer Development being held Jan. 2004 in the Anaheim, Calif. area. This scholarship program, in it’s second year, was created to extend an opportunity to a deserving individual to help them sharpen their sales skills and expand their knowledge of insurance products and markets.

The School for Producer Development is an intensive three-week series of insurance fundamentals courses and interactive sales training sessions. The Anaheim school is scheduled to take place Jan. 18 to Feb. 6, 2004 at the Anaheim/Orange Doubletree Hotel in Orange County, Calif. The tuition scholarship, a $3,800 value, covers materials and instruction, pre/post course work and follow-up, breakfast each morning, and dinner each Wednesday night. Travel and accommodations expenses are not included in the tuition scholarship and may be substantial. Any additional costs beyond the Producer School tuition will be the sole responsibility of the scholarship award recipient and will NOT be covered by this scholarship.

Detailed information about the School for Producer Development is available at http://www.scic.com/ProducerSchool/ProducerSchool/Anaheim.htm. Scholarship applicants should currently be in a sales or sales-oriented position at an insurance agency, company or insurance-related business.

The CEO of Wells Publishing will make the scholarship selection with the assistance of The National Alliance. The award recipient is subject to the final approval of The National Alliance. If the initially designated recipient is unable to attend, an alternate scholarship recipient selection will be made.

The Scholarship application form maybe filled out online at www.insurancejournal.com/scholarship, or can be submitted via mail, fax or e-mail to the attention of Alan Ring, vice president, Wells Publishing. Questions & comments may be e-mailed to aring@insurancejournal.com.

In Sept., Jeff McLaughlin, a producer with Dallas-based McLaughlin Brunson Insurance Agency, was named the recipient of the Matt Wells Producer Development Scholarship in the Texas/SouthCentral region, allowing him to attend the three-week long National Alliance School for Producer Development Sept. 21 – Oct. 10 in Fort Worth, Texas.

Donations by Peter H. Foley, president and CEO of Las Vegas, Nev.-based National Builder Insurance Services, and Rudy Whitcomb, president of Whitcomb Surplus Lines in Redondo Beach, Calif., enabled the scholarship fund to award McLaughlin with an additional $1,250 for expenses incurred while attending the school.

Applications must be received by Nov. 14, 2003. The scholarship winner will be selected and notified in Dec. 2003, and an announcement will be made in Insurance Journal and Insurance Journal Online.
