Joplin, Mo., residents have until Oct. 15 to demolish structures damaged by this spring’s devastating tornado, city officials announced. The deadline applies only to structures residents do not plan to reuse.
People without insurance to hire contractors may sign up for volunteer assistance if they can’t do the work themselves.
The deadline applies to slabs, basements, crawl spaces, footings, driveways and any other structures. The city will clear the lots of those who do not do meet the deadline or don’t notify the city of their intent to rebuild. The cost of the work will be charged to the property owner.
