Forecasters say two tornados hit the Houston area during early January thunderstorms that flooded roads and knocked out power. The National Weather Service said a tornado with 95 mph winds touched down on Jan. 9 in Mission Bend, 25 miles southwest of Houston. At least 10 homes suffered damage. No injuries were reported. Weather teams also determined a tornado with winds up to 75 mph hit a mall in Texas City, 40 miles southeast of Houston. Nobody was hurt but the mall had roof damage.
