Alabama’s Revenue Department is launching an online system that will allow county license plate officials to verify whether a vehicle has liability insurance.
The Legislature passed a requirement last year that the system be online by Jan. 1, 2013, to make sure motorists aren’t ignoring Alabama’s law.
Ten counties are piloting the system before its statewide launch in January. They are Covington, Elmore, Henry, Houston, Jefferson, Limestone, Mobile, Shelby, Tuscaloosa and Winston.
