Auto insurance was the line of coverage that topped the list of coverage complaints investigated by the Illinois Department of Insurance in 2012, with group accident and health insurance coming in second.
The department in 2012 investigated a total of 8,424 complaints, compared with a total of 8,945 complaints investigated in 2011. Claims handling was the number one reason for complaints against insurance companies.
