I have always “heard” that credit cards will cover this exposure, but I’ve never seen an actual example of it happening, nor have I ever seen the contract language supposedly providing the coverage. Relying on what someone else told you is a generally bad idea.

Tim, I also “heard” credit cards say they would cover your rental car, if you use their card for the rental. One day, I finally looked at my Amex card info on rental cars and found a 34 page PDF with all the details.

Now, do you think that it covered everything? Would it take 34 pages to tell you they cover everything? I don’t think so.

Would you believe they would not cover my Bentley, Rolls or Lamborghini? The thing that really frosted my cake was when they wouldn’t cover my Mazda RX-7. Yes, RX-7.

I always tell our clients to buy the “outrageously priced rental car coverage”.

Bill is spot-on in the rental car decision. It is really no decision. You must buy it.

The rental car question came up so many times over the years, that I wrote a blog about it a few years ago. Any time a customer asks about rental car, I send them to my blog at https://eastcoastinsurorsflorida.wordpress.com/2014/07/28/why-you-must-buy-rental-car-insurance-when-renting-a-car/

Many of them tell me they bought it, after viewing our blog.
    Thanks for the reminder Bill.
