Fair Oaks Man Arrested on Fraud Charge

April 29, 2002

Stanislav Svinarenko was booked into the Sacramento County Jail with bail set at $5,000 after being arrested on one count of insurance fraud. The Fair Oaks resident faces up to five years in state prison, with a possible maximum fine of $50,000.

Svinarenko was involved in an auto accident Jan. 8, 2001 where he allegedly rear-ended another vehicle. According to claim documents received from Omni Insurance, Svinarenko went to Pay Less Auto Insurance Agency the next day and replaced his liability-only auto policy with a policy that included collision damage coverage.

Subsequently, on Jan. 10, Svinarenko filed a claim for damages to his auto and allegedly reported that the date of loss was Jan. 9, 2001. Repairs for the other driver’s auto were eventually paid for by Orion Insurance.

Omni Insurance eventually turned down Svinarenko’s claim for damages to his own vehicle as the loss occurred prior to the inception date.

Potential loss to Omni Insurance had the reported fraud not been detected was thought to be around $6,550.
