Number of people who may be seeking hospitalization if an avian flu pandemic occurs similar in scope to the Spanish Flu pandemic that occurred in 1918, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Once an pandemic-sized outbreak occurs, it is estimated it would take six to 12 months for researchers to develop an avian flu vaccine.

The number of jobs Safeco insurance company announced it would be eliminating or reassigning nationwide. Safeco has about 9,000 employees in the United States, but has been trimming its workforce, in part, because of the sale of its life insurance and investment business.

Estimated insurance price tag of hail damage in southern New Mexico due to a hailstorm in September. The Rocky Mountain Insurance Information Association said more than 2,200 auto claims and approximately 950 homeowners’ claims have been filed thus far.
