Workers’ Compensation – Middle Market

Nuts & Bolts: Workers’ compensation for middle market and loss-sensitive plans, with broad risk appetite, is being offered by PointSure Insurance Services. Premiums are in excess of $130,000 with guaranteed cost and loss-sensitive plans. Experience modification factors are .80 or higher. Underwriters will look at 80 percent of all class codes.

Community Development Program

Nuts & Bolts: Gales Creek Insurance Services Inc. (GCIS) is offering its Community Development Corporation (CDC) program to insurance agents and brokers nationally, for the first time. The GCIS policy includes: tax credit projects; automatic cover ‘for profit’ subsidiaries; two-year rate guarantee; defense costs outside limits; automatic coverage for volunteers, trustees, committee members; employment-related practices liability including sexual harassment, discrimination and wrongful termination; defense of third party employment-related practices claims; amended BI/PD exclusion to create coverage for mental and emotional distress; outside directorship coverage; defense costs incurred by insuring contesting a claim for taxes/fines under IRS code; full prior acts and libel and slander coverage. Currently the program writes hundreds of CDCs all over the U.S. For consideration, CDCs must be affiliated with one of many national organizations who work in the field or receive funding from them, such as Enterprise, National Asso-ciation of Community Action Agencies, Essex, Rural Community Assistance Corp, LISC, Neighbor Works of Neighborhood Reinvest-ment Corp., be related to a Municipal Housing Authority or be a member of their state CDC trade association.

Dollars: $1 – $2 million; higher limits only with underwriting approval.

Commercial Marine

Nuts & Bolts: Commercial marine, including worldwide ocean cargo, cargo legal liability, hull and P&I, and vessel builder’s risk is available from PointSure Insurance Services. Policies are available for all types of cargos worldwide, including tug and barge and supply and utility boats.

Dollars: Unlimited. Minimum deductible is $1,000.

Carrier: Two carriers available. Both rated “A” XV by A.M. Best.

Security Risks

Nuts & Bolts: AI Risk, Lexington Insurance’s Middle Market Unit, elected Brownyard Programs Ltd to bring AIG’s GuardSecure product to small and intermediate-sized private security companies throughout the U.S. The program includes a wide range of private security businesses, such as: security guards; private investigators/investigative firms; background screening firms; security consultants; armored car companies; alarm installation and monitoring companies; and ATM servicing companies. The program offers an automatic Acci-dental Death and Dismemberment benefit.

Dollars: Limits available up to $5 million.

Museums

Nuts & Bolts: Markel Insurance Company is offering a new museum coverage policy. The Markel Museums protects not-for-profit 501(c)3 museums, historic homes, arts organizations, libraries and cultural centers. Small to mid-size institutions are their specialty. Limits for property, prefer values under $12 million with fine arts limited to $1 million. Higher deductibles may be required depending on values and susceptibility to wind and other catastrophic exposures.

Dollars: Limits, $1 million to $10 million. Deductible, $1,000. Minimum premium, $1,500 to $75,000.

Basic Health

Nuts & Bolts: Markel Basic Health is group, limited medical insurance, designed for the 26 million working Americans who do not have health insurance. While it is not intended to replace major medical, it does provide a level of benefits for those without coverage at an affordable rate for both the employee and employer. Employers who have classes of employees without major medical insurance, including those that employ hourly, part-time, seasonal or temporary workers like restaurants, construction companies, schools, child care facilities, summer camps, nursing homes, landscapers and retailers.

Dollars: Varies. Limits: a scheduled benefit, indemnity plan design. Premium: composite rates with 50 percent or more employer contribution. Otherwise, has age-banded rates.

Event Cancellation

Nuts & Bolts: Advanced AFG Risk Services LLC announced a new coverage that provides protection for organizations holding conventions, seminars, meetings, and trade and consumer shows against loss of anticipated revenue or additional expenses incurred should an event be cancelled, interrupted, postponed, terminated early, or relocated due to reasons beyond the control of the insured. Coverage extends to cover personal property while in use during the event, door registration receipts, and additional events. Coverage can include worldwide coverage, terrorism coverage options, indoor or outdoor, dedicated underwriting and service team.
